Here is a car that is almost indistinguishable from a real GT500KR, apart from the price difference. Starting with a car that in its own rite has a strong intrinsic value, a 1968 “S” Code 390 Mustang Fastback. This vehicle has been modified along the same lines as what Carroll Shelby did when these cars were new. He would start with a Mustang and through the A.O.Smith Company in Ionia, would have a number of body panels replaced with fiberglass parts, just as this car has. These would and do, include the hood, with its very distinctive double hood scoop and held closed with Dzus fasteners. The complete nose cone was changed and Lucas “square eight” fog lamps fitted, the taillight surround area along with taillights that came from a 1965 Ford Thunderbird and the trunk were all altered. In addition side scoops were fitted to the rear quarter section and the C pillars as well. Wheels on this car are known as 10 spoke, 15x 7 inches, (optional in the day) cast alluminium style. This car, being an original 390 car, already is equipped with suspension to handle the 428 cubic inch motor that has been installed. In appearance and mechanically this car doesn’t deviate terribly from an original even having a roll bar fitted as did the originals. The big difference here is the cost factor. With this car you have for all intents and purposes a car that looks and performs similarly to an authentic Shelby GT500KR but with out the anger value should something happen to your original version that you may have just invested $230,000.00 in too. Finished in what arguably could be called the best colour combination ever for a Shelby, Raven Black with Black interior and White GT500KR striping
